Re: DUNE - (Let the spice flow!)

What's great is that it's not Star Wars, and yet it holds up to Star Wars like you said in your first post. There's already enough worldbuilding for it to become a huge and long-lasting franchise, like a modern Star Wars. The one very big difference is that Dune seems far more serious while Star War...

Re: Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice & Fire)

You phrased it a bit better than I did, but indeed that's how I feel about it.

I feel really bad for those people among us who have been reading the books, and who are coming to terms with the likelihood that Martin is never going to finish the story.

Totally not my genre, but I went to see it and I loved it. I can't wait for part 2. :)

Re: Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice & Fire)

I've heard this theory that the TV industry has simply run out of inspiration. With how many shows and movies have already been made, it's become almost impossible to write something original and unpredictable, without abandoning all the tropes that make it watchable. That being said, Khaleesi losin...

Ooph!

Not sure how offensive this is, but I think it's common knowledge that Roger is a bit insufferable. Five women marrying him is the surprising part; four women divorcing him... not so much. :D

Re: The Leweit Music Thread

I can finally share this! My big project for 2020 was to make an album as a birthday present for my father. He's always been a big fan of classic rock music, so I recorded this together with my siblings and mother. The instruments are all played by me; the vocals are shared quite evenly between all ...

Re: What are you listening to now?

I feel you, Alec. I always consider rock music to have the perfect balance between interesting and commercial, but that also means that a lot of rock music is really quite similar to each other... When I get my fill of rock, I usually resort to neo-classical / electronic / ambient music. Jazz is muc...

The one true Pink Floyd soundtrack that I love, is Echoes synched with A Space Odyssey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rn7MmS3vazU

That is most definitely not mine! I'm a bit sad, since I had the impression that Lee White was a rather unique name, despite consisting of two rather common names. There is another Lee White by the way! Apparently it's someone who made dance music in the 1920s, and you can find some of his music on ...

Radiohead - The Bends Fantastic album. This album is often overlooked because OK Computer is arguably even better and a lot more iconic. But if it weren't for OK Computer, The Bends would be much more recognized as a groundbreaking album where every single song is an absolute masterpiece. Angèle - B...

I thought I had already posted about this, but apparently not. Foxtrot has been my number one album for quite a while, ever since Supper's Ready began seriously growing on me. Re: Kettles and Bacon (AHM Article)

I agree, AHM is their breakthrough in how they wanted to approach the experimental stuff. I think that their first albums were too much "out there". You could tell that they had amazing talent but the experimentation led to some music that was always going to be disliked by people who list...
