Auto-colourised photo

I came across this photo on Reddit. Colourisation software has been used to determine the colours in the B&W photo.

This looks neat! And, it has to be said: they look quite happy, considering the time this picture was taken.

This was pre-Dark Side, right? I always thought that was the point in their history where they still all liked each other and got along.

I think this is circa 1972.

Photos from that session are used as the gatefolds of my 2011 CDs for Atom Heart Mother and Meddle. Would strike me as strange if it was later than that - my guess would be 1971 but I'm just speculating.

This was always one of my favorite band pictures. Good job!

So yeah, the pre-Dark Side band where they all got along and could agree that pie crusts were their common enemy.

I'm not sure how colorize-it.com works. I have seen how B&W analogue media (film) actually stores colour information. There's an old British sitcom called Dad's Army (from the 1960s) whose early shows were in B&W but, with modern technology, the colours have been deciphered and restored, and then the footage remastered, and were re-run in colour on TV here a few years ago. I don't know if this is what's happened to our photo or whether the software just makes good guesses at what colours are likely to be.

We should start taking black and white pictures of shit and run them through the website to see how close it gets to the real deal.
