Desert Island Discs - Pink Floyd style!

Postby Dyolf » Thu Nov 13, 2014 2:23 pm

Okay, I have another poll idea!

You may choose ANY three Pink Floyd or solo albums, be they studio or live, but obviously you can't pick disc 1 of one album and disc 2 of another - whole albums only.

I've got two off the bat, but I'll have to give some thought to the third one.

The Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here
Live in Gdansk (covers On an Island, so I don't have to choose that separately)

I chose Pulse, because it covers DSOTM as well as great stuff like "Comfortably Numb", "Run Like Hell" and "Astronomy Domine" as well as some of the best stuff from AMLOR and TDB. WYWH is a fantastic from start to finish and DG is full of great guitar work.

Pulse
Live in Gdansk
Obscured by Clouds

The combination of these 3 capture pretty much everything I love about Pink Floyd.

As great as the pun would have been, I passed over On An Island in favor of Obscured By Clouds, Animals, and Meddle. There is enough variety there to sustain me. Of course, I would have likely done something like burn a disc with both ASOS and Ummagumma live or side 2 of Atom Heart Mother... For one of the albums :P hey, you never said anything against... Oh, wait, you did.

I think I'd probably burn my own discs. I would burn the 2011 Dark Side onto one (with a few more songs attached - a disc can hold up to 80 mins), 2011 Wish You Were Here (also with attached songs), and the third would be a mix of songs by various artists I like.

I know its cheating, but it works!

Pulse (encompasses much of the best of AMLOR/TDB, all of DSOTM, and key pieces from WYWH, The Wall).
Animals.
The Wall.

Just for shits and giggles I was revisiting old threads and came across this one from Dyolf a year and a half ago. I thought about the poll question not remembering that I originally posted. To my surprise, I came up with the same 3 selections.

Looks like I picked Wish You Were Here, The Endless River, and Broken China, which still makes perfect sense. That's the perfect Rick Wright trilogy!

My choices gave changed. AHM is my number-one desert island disc anyway, but I've added Animals and Dark Side.
