Ehh, maybe. I think its just because they were such juvenile songwriters back then and really had little idea of what they were actually doing.

I'll add "Surfacing" to the list, from The Endless River. "Calling" and "Eyes to Pearls" are so dark and ominous sounding that leading straight into "Louder Than Words" would feel really disjointed. "Surfacing" definitely sounds like something off of The Division Bell, and it gives it a nice boost in feeling before ending the whole album.
