Noteworthy collaborations and appearances

Postby Dyolf » Wed Dec 28, 2016 11:42 pm

As the title suggests: noteworthy collaborations or guest appearances by Pink Floyd members. I'll kick it off:

Here are a couple of videos of David performing with Pete Townshend's Deep End. David played lead guitar during the show, with Pete being happy to play rhythm (usually acoustic), but David also performed on Pete's album White City: A Novel on the tracks "Give Blood" and "White City" (he wrote the music for the latter, originally planned for About Face). During the Deep End shows the band also performed David's "Blue Light" with some powerful guitar work from Mr G.

I've seen a video of David using the guitar seen in that "Give Blood" video to play "Comfortably Numb" around the same time, circa 1985-86. It's a pretty interesting performance.

I'm sure everyone remembers David's tribute to Prince last April. He actually played Purple Rain with Tom Jones back in 1992. Great rendition with a killer solo at the end.

David Gilmour played guitar on Paul McCartney's album Run Devil Run, and I believe was the guitarist for Paul's band at the Cavern Club's little birthday party.

Back when David was writing About Face he sent a demo tune to Pete Townshend and to Roy Harper asking both to supply lyrics for it. He felt that he could not connect with either song, so Townshend and Harper used the songs themselves, Townshend's became "White City Fighting" from his album White City: A Novel and Harper's became "Hope" from his collaborative album with Jimmy Page What Ever Happened to Jugula? If you've never heard these, here they are. David even plays on "White City Fighting" where the same part is performed by Harper's son on "Hope". I much prefer "White City Fighting", I can't get into "Hope" at all.
