Post by FrowningBanana » Thu Feb 09, 2017 3:48 am

For those of you that don't know me by name, my name is Nicholas (as you could probably already tell).

My newest musical venture will be coming soon. Everything has been decided, and I'm just waiting to finish it now.

Can't wait to release this.

Ah hell yeah! I still need to listen to The End by Key to Her Heart though, I missed that one somewhere along the way.

It's definitely the most emotional thing I've written, so be ready for that.

More to come soon, but I'll be dropping hints. It's fun to play that game. :) (note, don't assume the non-English portions are just translations of the English portions... ;) )

Put your head and mind in the clouds. It's where they ought to be.

It's official, this is bound to be absolutely the best thing -- imo -- that I've ever created. Some things just are absolutely looking up in life, and it's going to be some damn good music.

Based on the Berkeley video you paired your music up with a while back, is this going to be a very emotionally charged piece?

I can't sing either man, but Rainware Installation had my vocals all over it! Given, they weren't "singing" vocals and it was all spoken word, but hey...

Meh, just autotune the shit out of everything.

I won't lie -- I used Melodyne on several of my songs. I just cannot do proper pitching on every single note for a whole 3 minutes.

Melodyne... I've not heard of that. I also can't hold pitch either, but it's also mostly my deep nasally voice that ruins it.

But god damn, happy St. Valentine's Day to me!

Not gonna lie man, the melodies are way stronger and present on this body of work. The heavy presence of piano is also something that keeps me drawn into it. You've never lost my attention with your music, and it looks like it's going to stay that way.

Means a lot to me, man. I've grown closer to piano songs, so they're going to be the forefront.

Guess who's already made the first song for his next piece? I literally cannot stop making music, guys. Send help

I know that feeling. I'm forcing myself to take a break once this project is out, which is fine, since Midori is due in April (probably March) and PT2 isn't due until September.

I'm likely going to take a break after this one, or prolong making this one for a long time. I'm thinking of making this one a double-album, which automatically requires me to take a long time.

Some initial notes:

01. The Beginning
The rhythm in this intro is awesome. It reminds me of Radiohead's Bloom, where the rhythm starts off sounding very irregular, but then becomes clearer when more instruments join in.
02. Falling Deeply
I love the piano. Really great rhythm, and nicely matches the title.
03. Actually, Factually
I don't like this one as much, but it gets better as it goes. The melody at 0:55 is a bit strange, and the instrument that comes in at 0:09 seems to sound more bassy than the actual bass despite playing higher notes. I'd have equalized these a bit differently.
As usual though, at 1:20 the whole interchange of different piano parts with different rhythms starts, and that is a really awesome part. At this point it's pretty clear that this is the album's credo, which is awesome.
The wind instrument in the outro is really good too -- adds just another bit of variation for the outro.
04. Beyond Reason
The effect at 0:50 is a great segue from the trebly intro to the bassy chords that start right afterwards. I also like the chord sequence in particular -- it sounds like the bass notes are pretty much the only thing that changes, which sounds nice. I really like this song in general.
05. Semper Invicta
Awesome intro after the previous quieter sound. In general, your drums are great -- both sound-wise and rhythm-wise.

In general, this album radiates "I've listened to The King of Limbs a lot", which you can tell from the rhythms you use. I really like that, especially since your music is so melodic, while the lack of melody is one of the things that makes The King of Limbs a bit too unaccessible.

It's funny that you say that. Up until making this album, and after it too, I've been listening to a LOT of Radiohead, especially A King of Limbs and A Moon Shaped Pool. So I see it. That's the one thing I hate about KOL is that it lacks rhythm. I still can't get myself to like that album, spare a few songs.

I didn't exactly go into this album thinking "I'm going to do KOL the way it should've been done," but I see the parallels.

I dig the criticisms, by the way. Helps me in making something better next time (which I think I'm doing currently. I also really dislike "Actually, Factually" as a track. But I kept it because I liked some of what it did. I don't know if you got into the last two tracks, but they're my favorite. I don't know if you're a NIN fan, but if you are, you probably could tell that "Dream Sequence" was absolutely inspired by NIN. Euphoric Dreams has a Steely Dan/Alan Parsons feel to it, in my opinion. Sort of was inspired by that, I guess.

You're not friends with me on FB so you wouldn't know this, but the next album is slated for April. I'm already 37 minutes of content in, if it all stays. I think I just made the best track of the album, though.

One of the tracks is over 10 minutes long, and I'm sure you all would appreciate that. That one competes for best track as well.

Anyways...

April 2017?

If Silver can get his album done in time, then Floydians might get to have a hell of a musical spring this year. Midori, Welcome to the Machine, and The Children within the same two months would be dope.

I should've stipulated that WTTM isn't the title of the album. Just a reference since it's a Floyd song, and I did a similar sort of thing with one of my songs -- titled "The Machine."

I'm still deciding between two album titles. You'll know when I drop it. I've planned one more teaser with the song "The Machine," then I'll eventually release the art and the title of the album.

I guess it was my fault for italicizing it. I was trying to continue my trend of italicizing teasers, but that just looks like an album title. RIP.
