The winner of The Final Cut Survivor is: Not Now John!

As you can see we're now onto The Endless River! Due to this being a double album you now have 3 votes - for the time being. As songs drop off the votes will decrease.

Unsung, Calling, Things Left Unsaid. None are bad (okay, maybe Unsung is) but nothing really happens. Either intros or interludes that could do to be a bit shorter.

I'm sorry Nick, but I voted for Skins in this one. I understand that this was supposed to be a reprise of A Saucerful of Secrets, but those drums are produced so atrociously! The song is meant to be a drum solo-ish thing, and they mixed the drums so that they sound distant, echo-y and muddled. Even the snare doesn't even have the slightest punch to it.

The other two I picked were The Lost Art of Conversation, and Noodle Street. Those songs don't sound bad, but they should either have been turned into more complete songs, or left out of the album together. They're part of why I find The Endless River quite boring to listen to, with only a couple of really good highlights scattered around the album.

Early predictions for the winning songs for me include "It's What We Do", "Anisina", "Autumn '68", "Talkin' Hawkin'", and "Surfacing".

Wait, Surfacing in the top five? It's a nice ambient piece but I wouldn't put it anywhere near the top of the list...

I'm pretty damn convinced that "Surfacing" was the original middle section for "Poles Apart" before the carnival idea was conceived.

Wow. I don't like the carnival bit, but three minutes of ambience would really throw off the momentum of the song. Way more than the carnival bit.

The first time I heard "Surfacing" it seemed really obvious that it was part of "Poles Apart". Same guitar part, same chord scheme, and even the background singers fit the mood of the song. I think someone made a mash-up of the two tracks somewhere that was absolutely perfect.

I am mistaken. I was actually thinking of Calling. I looked at the track listing and I thought, wait, I thought Surfacing opened side 4. I was mistaken.

However, apart from the very, very intro, I hear little resemblance to Poles Apart in the real Surfacing; I hear only Welcome To The Machine, loud and clear. The guitar mimics that song to a T. I hadn't paid attention to this tune before; gonna have to readjust my rankings for this album.
