This is where things are going to start getting difficult.
I know the forum has had its highs and lows, but I think it's quickly approaching its final sleep... no point coming around when I'm basically talking to myself for weeks at a time, huh?

Same, except trade "Run Like Hell" for "The Thin Ice". This is where the rounds are going to get difficult for me because the weak Disc 2 tracks are gone and Disc 1 is practically flawless to me.

I'm holding onto Thin Ice as long as possible because it's one of the three songs on this thing with piano, and one of 'em is already gone. This album needs piano badly.

I'm also a big piano buff (probably the most obvious thing I've ever said in my life), but The Wall does fine with it in smaller doses. I don't recall Animals having a lot of non-electric piano work on it at the moment, and it didn't need it to sound great. I always saw The Wall as an evolution of the previous album's edgier, yet more sparse and effects-driven style.

A dull, very un-Pink Floydish, fairly un-catchy cock-rockish stomper with dreadful lyrics that goes nowhere, on a disc of mostly melodically sound, well-crafted, and well balanced in atmosphere versus musicality? I stand by my choice.

Well now we know this round is going to have a tie-breaker to try and save "Young Lust".

"Young Lust" is one of the strongest songs, musically, on the album. In fact, all of the Gilmour credited songs are in the top 5. How can people seriously be voting off this song already?

Why even bother creating these games if you're just going to complain about peoples' choices? I thought the point of these was to see other peoples' opinions about these albums and songs. Stop is firmly in my top ten for this album but I didn't start whining when it got booted in the first round. And if you want a reason why I voted for Young Lust, I've already posted it.

My tied-for-first song was voted off, so it happens. That's the funny thing about democracy; it sounds like a good idea until your side loses. The cock rock aspect of Pink Floyd only worked on The Final Cut because that album is musically anemic. The Wall is a very powerful collection of music, so the cock rock just isn't a stand out.

This would be my list of songs off of The Wall that are stronger from a musical standpoint:
-In the Flesh? / In the Flesh
-The Thin Ice
-Another Brick in the Wall (Parts I and II)
-Mother
-Goodbye Blue Skies
-Empty Spaces
-One of My Turns
-Don't Leave Me Now
-Hey You (sorry Artisan, I like the music here)
-Is There Anybody Out There?
-Nobody Home
-Comfortably Numb
-The Show Must Go On
-Run Like Hell
-Waiting for the Worms

You will never be forgiven

I don't like Young Lust because it's Pink Floyd playing glam rock straight. That to me would be like Metallica doing a Christmas album and playing it straight. I like T Rex well enough, but Pink Floyd is not the kind of band that can pull this off. And Young Lust is also no Get It On. Not Now John works because it's about people treating each other like shit. I don't go to Pink Floyd to hear sex jams, I go to Pink Floyd to hear songs about people treating each other like shit. The aggressive music works there lending credibility to the characters; Young Lust just sounds like Pink Floyd trying on a (then-dead) genre like a cheap Halloween costume.

The guitar solo is great... but not good enough to make me like the song as a whole more than 17 other songs on the album.

That actually sums it up way better than I ever could. If I wanted to listen to rock songs about fucking, I could listen to just about any other rock band from that era. But I don't want to listen to rock songs about fucking, that's why I listen to Pink Floyd. Very little rock, even less fucking.

Dyolf did say that he had some out-of-town business for the next few weeks when he either started this round or ended the last one, I think.

Indeed. Apologies, I've been very busy lately and have had little access to the web. I did manage to login here but it was too slow and I gave up. I will recommence the game soon.
