Wait, so the third movie after episode six is called number eight? What the hell was Rogue One then? Seven and a half?

The original movie was just meant to be a standalone film known as Star Wars, and that's what it was called. There was no "episodes" or subtitles. But George Lucas suddenly had the idea to expand the story in two directions, both into the past to build a history and into the future to expand the story. That's when Star Wars became Episode IV: A New Hope. Episodes V and VI then came after, then time passed before George Lucas decided to make his prequel idea, giving us Episodes I, II, and III. The show Clone Wars takes place between Episodes II and III, Rebels covers the space between Episodes III and IV, and Rogue One takes place almost exactly at the same time as Episode IV. Literally, Rogue One ends as A New Hope begins, they overlap with each other and take place simultaneously at the end.

So it's more like Episode 3.9 in that aspect.

The new one is going to be called The Last Jedi. I'm officially excited for it.

It was unnumbered, hence why it was stylised as "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", rather than "Star Wars: Rogue One", also this is reflected in the film's musical score, with Darth Vader's theme being re-arranged and the intro fanfare being absent all together - it subtly sets it apart from the main films.

The most jarring thing was the opening as well. Not so much the lack of the opening crawl (I didn't expect one anyway), but just how the music and the opening scene started exactly like how the others have all started sans crawl. It felt pretty abrupt and messed with my head. But then again, it was weird going into The Force Awakens and not having the 20th Century Fox fanfare before the opening (since they're owned by Disney now).

Got to see Episode VIII last night. Won't share my exact thoughts yet, but... hmmm. I liked some of the prequels more.

I am currently re-watching The Force Awakens before going to see The Last Jedi tonight. I forgot just how cute-as-f**k Daisy Ridley is.

Okay... The Last Jedi was pretty bad in places. The whole casino thing was utter crap, especially those stupid horse-rabbit things. The film is waaaay too long and the ending was stupid. The battles were pretty good - I liked the way it kicks off with a big space-battle and the visual aesthetic of the red-and-white explosions in the final battle were cool, but seriously - I could have written a far better story than that. I stick by my opinion after seeing The Force Awakens - killing off Han Solo was a big mistake - he's sorely missed in this film.

If Rian Johnson had actually put effort into Luke Skywalker's character than it wouldn't have been such a problem I don't think. But now it stands that Han was still classic Han in TFA whereas Luke was almost a completely different character in TLJ. People who wanted to see a post-ROTJ Luke (like me) are going to be extremely disappointed in TLJ (like me).

I tried watching TLJ the other day and I just couldn't sit through it all. J.J. Abrams had better pull something out of his ass so big it'll make his nose bleed for a week.
